ADICA partners with Argonne to develop long-term projection of electricity prices in Western United States

Oak Brook, IL - September 01, 2008 (News Release)

ADICA partnered with Argonne National Laboratory to apply its EMCAS software in developing a long-term projection of electricity prices for the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) region.

Special attention was given to interdependencies between hydropower and thermal power plant operations as hydropower plants may serve up to 40 percent of the WECC load in wet hydrology years. In some water basins, such as the Colorado River System, annual hydropower generation can vary by more than a factor of five. Hydrology conditions impact the dispatch of the thermal system, and therefore water use by the power sector.

The WECC sub-regions we modeled include the Northwest Power Pool (NWPP), Rocky Mountain Power Area (RMPA), Arizona-New Mexico-Southern Nevada Power Area (AZNM), and California (CAL).
