ADICA’s Electricity System Analysis Software is Used in Preparing Power Development Program for the Philippines
ADICA’s Electricity System Analysis Software is Used in Preparing Power Development Program for the Philippines
With funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Chubu Electric Power Company executed a technical consulting contract to support "Capacity Building for Generation Expansion Planning in the Philippines". Under the project, with licensing and training support from ADICA, the Philippine Department of Energy worked with Chubu staff in applying ADICA’s GTMax software together with the WASP-IV model to develop a Power Development Program (PDP) for the Philippines. In the study, GTMax was used to evaluate system operation, determine optimal location of power sources, and assess the benefits of new transmission lines.
Chubu enlisted the services of ADICA to license its GTMax software for use by the Philippine Department of Energy and organize two training courses on Generation Planning in a Competitive Market Environment Using WASP IV and GTMAX. Twenty participants from governmental institutions in the Philippines participated in these training events held in Manila.
The software licensing and training provided by ADICA and analytical support from Chubu, enabled the Philippine’s DOE to develop a national PDP identifying the optimal timing, size and location of future generating capacity and transmission lines in the country.
About GTMax
Argonne National Laboratory developed the GTMax model to simulate the dispatch of electric generating units and economic trade of energy among utility companies and other market participants. The model computes hourly energy transactions, production costs, and Locational Marginal Prices. GTMax worldwide clients include electric utilities, regulatory bodies, power merchants, transmission companies, research institutes and universities.
