This year the FLC presented its Midwest Region Partnership Award to ADICA Consulting for its work with Argonne National Laboratory on the Electricity Market Complex Adaptive System (EMCAS) software.
FLC Midwest Regional Coordinator Cindy Wesolowski notes that “The [Partnership] Award recognizes a business, university, or non-federal government organization that has accomplished outstanding work in the process of transferring a technology developed by a federal laboratory to the commercial marketplace.” This year ADICA was chosen to be the “cream of the crop” by a distinguished panel of technology transfer experts from industry and the federal laboratory system.
According to ADICA President, Bruce Hamilton, “the innovative EMCAS software meets a clear and pressing need in the electricity industry by enabling utility companies, system operators, and market regulators to more accurately model and better understand the behavior of electricity market participants in order to make better, more informed decisions.”
Since the initial release of EMCAS in August 2005, the software has been licensed for use by a wide spectrum of clients (e.g., electric utility, transmission company, regulatory agency, research center and university) in Asia, Europe and North America.
About EMCAS
The Electricity Market Complex Adaptive System software is designed to meet the growing need for advanced modeling approaches that simulate how electricity markets evolve over time. EMCAS employs an innovative agent-based modeling approach to more accurately model the complex interactions between physical infrastructures (generation, transmission, and distribution) and economic behavior of market participants.
About ADICA
ADICA is a leading provider of energy consulting and cutting-edge energy system analysis software for Government Agencies and Energy Companies worldwide. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, ADICA specializes in the application of innovative agent-based modeling software created by Argonne National Laboratory for simulating electricity markets. ADICA is worldwide distributor of the EMCAS software.
About Argonne
Argonne National Laboratory is one of the U.S. Department of Energy’s largest research centers. It is also the nation’s first laboratory, chartered in 1946. Today, the laboratory has about 2,900 employees, of whom about 750 hold doctorate degrees. Argonne’s annual operating budget of about $475 million supports upwards of 200 research projects ranging from studies of the atomic nucleus to global climate change research.
