The SM-Optimizer software was developed by Argonne National Laboratory and is distributed under the product name GTMax.
SM-Optimizer simulates the dispatch of electric generating units and economic trade of energy among utility companies and other market participants. The model computes hourly energy transactions, production costs, and Locational Marginal Prices.
USAID conducted a Technology Review of the SM-Optimizer software. Factors considered in this review, include: suitability and cost-effectiveness of the software solution; maintenance; training; and staffing. Upon completing this review, USAID procured 15 SM-Optimizer licenses for utility companies in seven countries of Southeast Europe.
